Happy (almost!) spring,
Are you hoping that old Groundhog was right and that an early spring is coming? We sure wouldn't mind seeing the sun a little more. Well, if your green thumbs have been itching to get back to the soil, then it’s a sure sign the wheel of the year continues to turn and Ostara is on the way!
Also celebrated as the Vernal or Spring Equinox, Ostara is a time to plant the fields and sow the seeds ( St. John’s Wort is always a good addition to the witch’s garden!). As we lay the groundwork for an abundant future, it’s a good time to celebrate hope and the return of life into the earth (at least here in the Northern Hemisphere). Eggs, hares, and flowers have long been symbols of this special time of year, along with lovely springy greens, pinks, and purples. Learn more about Ostara here or pick up one of our favorite Llewellyn guides for history, rituals, and ideas.
A great Ostara tradition for the family is to start some seeds indoors, but if you’re looking for a more in depth ritual, you’re always welcome to share ours. We have a wonderful selection of spell candles and candle and stone sets to help you with a simple celebration. Featured in many spring and fertility rituals, we also have plenty of ways to honor the Green Man. Our favorites are the Green Man Chalice and the Green Man Plaque. If you want to carry a little spring in your step all year, try one of our Tree of Life charms as a reminder of the beauty and rhytyhm of nature.
However you celebrate, we hope it keeps getting lovlier where you are!
