The Vikings were a fierce, seafaring people from Scandinavia. They believed in many Gods, such as Odin, Thor, Loki, and Freyja. From around the year 793 A.D. to the end of the Viking era in 1066 C.E. Norseman used rivers and oceans to explore Europe for trading, raiding, and conquest. They captured and sold slaves, mainly from Slavic, Germanic, and Anglo-Saxon tribes.

Vikings also had a special class of warriors called Berserkers who wore bearskins and were blessed by Odin.

791 A.D. raids began on the British Isles. Early targets were Christian monastaries on small islands, which were often unprotected. 840 A.D. Muslims repeled a Viking raid in Spain. 866 A.D. Vikings established a kingdom in York.

In conducting raids across Europe, Vikings were likely especially important in bringing Vikito new areas including the "New World" and making them the human companions they are today.
